Light painting

I took part in a light painting workshop, light painting is where you leave the shutter open on a camera for a longer period of time and use light to create a picture or word by drawing with the light. When the shutter closes it would have captured the lights movements in one still picture. This is an example of light painting by light graffiti artist Sola, she also creates advertisement posters for companies such as Nike. I think that her work is effective and eye catching, I like the way she has painted with the light and the movements she has done in order to create depth to the picture. I could take this technique further and develop an art piece based on renewable energy, such as draw a renewable energy source out of light, I think that the two subjects would link together quite well as renewable energy can provide us with power to light our homes. This could be a powerful photography piece or poster if I can come up with an imaginative idea.

Pablo Picasso

Pablo Picasso created the first light painting in 1949 he created his drawings with a small electric light in a dark room, it took many trials to get it rights the technology wasn't as advanced as today.

Diorama

Other techniques of creating Diorama art is to do a timelapse of a scene such as a city or beach, this artist has angled the camera and focused the lens in such a way that it makes the people and the objects look miniature. This technique is called tilt shift, here is an example of this. To take this further I could use these skills to show renewable energy for advertising purposes.

Diorama
I took part in a series of workshops that would provide me with ideas for my project. The first workshop was a diorama workshop, we where given a series of artists that used miniature figures and created miniature scenes to produce photography. Artist Slinkachu uses miniature figures and puts them against or on top of life sized objects to distort our perspective of these things and create a scene from the surroundings.

Here is an example of a stop motion video created using natural resources and the natural environment, something like this would be very effective for this project. It could create a real connection with the audience as it could potentially be a way of communicating a strong message to the public. It could also be used to create a powerful art piece out of the natural environment and natural resources which could be photographed.

Video By Aardman animation studios

I have been reading some books about animation and stop motion animation, I have learned how much detailed planning in which it takes to create an animation film. Although it sounds easy to create a moving picture by pressing the button on a camera and moving the object, to achieve a successful, professional looking animation it takes planning and patience. It is always good to create a story board of your project you plan to animate, it is good to study camera angles so you know where to position your camera and what you want your audience to focus on. Lighting is always key as lighting changes throughout the day, and it is a good thing to have consistent lighting so that when you come to play the pictures continuously, your film set will look the same throughout.

Stop Motion Animation

Stop motion animation is where a person takes a series of photographs and in between taking each photo you move the subject by a small amount each time, this technique can be used to create a movie with clay characters. When all of the photographs are played continuously the once still character can be brought to life and it looks as if the character is moving on its own. One of the most famous uses of stop motion is to create  children's programme's and films such as the Aardman studio animation company who brought us Wallace and Gromit and Shawn the sheep. These photographs where taken when I took a visit to the Bristol discovery museum, they had a section in the museum that featured animation and stop motion animation.

I took part in an animation stop motion workshop, we where set the task of creating a flip book based on our project theme being Environmental friendly. we where working in teams to come up with one idea, I made a flip book about over fishing.

I have recently been researching posters on world change and I found these posters which I thought where very effective. They engage the audience and they are thought provoking which are two of the main things that are asked in the criteria. I think the artists have both showed how humanity and nature contribute to world issues, encouraging people to change the world for the better. I think a poster similar to both of these would be a powerful way in communicating my message to the audience.

There are many things that contribute to climate change and global warming, one of the main causes are industrial companies burning large amounts of fossil fuels. By cutting down forests this increases the amount of carbon dioxide that stays in the air, as trees naturally absorb carbon dioxide in the air. The excess carbon dioxide in the atmosphere traps a lot of the suns heat, causing a rise in the earths temperature. This is an increasing problem and I have tried to communicate this to my audience here, by creating a warning sign with the words Global Warming, if you read closely towards the bottom it stars to say warning.

Fossil Fuels

Here I have created a picture based on my latest research. Fossil fuels are coal oil and natural gas, these fuels where formed from the remains of living organisms over millions of years. About three quarters of electricity generated in the UK is fueled by fossil fuels.
There are many disadvantages to using fossil fuels as a main source of energy as over the years it has increasingly caused harm to the environment and is becoming a larger problem today, for example the rise of global warming. Fossil fuels are a non renewable source of energy, and the supply is limited. There is a solution to this and it is to encourage the use of renewable energy, which I will be looking into in more depth.

"Regen SW passionately believes that sustainable energy has a vital role at the heart of a successful economy and thriving local communities."
The Brief
Regen SW would like to invite you to work alone or collaboratively to create a 2D piece of artwork and/or text that explores an aspect of sustainable energy.

The resulting artworks will be:
·         Profiled on the website power-culture.com – A blog that explores our energy generation through the arts and is shared via Regen SW’s networks and social media channels with the sustainable energy sector
·         Displayed at an Art & Energy symposium in October 2016 and The South West Green Energy Awards in Bath in November 2016
·        Considered by The Institution for Civil Engineers for display in bus stops across the South West.

Friday 12 February 2016

To start the project I took part in a type printing workshop to help develop various techniques and processes I could use to create my final piece, this allowed me to be creative with words and colour. From looking around at other peoples work this showed me just how powerful text can be, this alone could have the strongest impact on my audience if it is done well. From this workshop I learned how important text is, and how a simple phrase or sentence can make people think differently about a particular subject for instance renewable energy.

The future

The world is constantly changing, and the environment around us is being forced to adapt to our habits and growing needs as humans. Through this project I will be exploring what the future holds for the environment, and the many evolving world issues that are apparent today. This involves being creative, imaginative and willing to be challenged. I will come up with new ideas to express to the public how we can change the environment for the better.
