I started to create my design using flour and a paint brush to sculpt the letter to get fine detail. The first letter took me at least 15-20 mins, then the process started to get a lot faster once I got used to using the brush in the right way to delicately form the words. After I had finished the words, I used fruit and vegetables for more decoration to make it look more attractive. The whole process took me 1 hour, not including the photography which took me half an hour or so to set up the layout for the photo.

Food typography
I have recently been researching different ways of displaying the chapters of my zine, such as title pages. I have included a recipe section in my zine and I think that this would be an effective, eyecatching way of introducing the recipes. Here is a moodboard of all the examples of food typography I found.
Interviews with people/public
I explored the streets of Looe and the beach and asked various people different questions about the style of living, and life by the sea and what effect it has on them. I plan to use their responses to write an article for my zine.

Interview with fish monger
I interviewed a fish monger about their business, it was very interesting to talk to a local business and find out about the history of the business. Pengelly's has a very friendly atmosphere, and where more welcoming to their customers, and regulars. They where more than happy to help me with my project by allowing me to be apart of the atmosphere and take in what the business is really about.
Interview with Pengelly’s
Fish Monger
1) Is there anything you
would say to people about why they should buy locally rather than go elsewhere,
such as large retail Supermarkets?
It is important to support
our industry for jobs, not only do we land one of the most good quality fish in
the country, it provides people with jobs, it’s about sustainability.
We don’t take all the stocks
because we fish daily and locally, we only take what we need plus you are
always guaranteed fresh fish. We buy from day boats, and are probably the only
ones in Cornwall who specialise from Looe fish. We are the 5th generation of fish
mongers from the family business, and between all of us there is over 100 years
of experience.
2) Is anything else you would
like to add about your business that is significant to you?
We are responsible buyers who
buy from responsible fishermen, who fish sustainably.
The business is also unique
because it is run by all women.
3) Are there any fish recipes
you would suggest ?
Because the fish is so fresh
you don’t need to over complicate it because the taste will be fresh, you can
season the fish with a coat of flour and sprinkle a bit of black pepper on the
fish, then fry it piping hot with oil and the juice of a lemon.

Drawing with collage Preporation
I am going to do a Drawing With Collage workshop soon so I thought I would research some artists who use collage in their work, also It will give me ideas for my work and what I could gain ouut of doing this workshop.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collage
I researched two Types of collage as the artists that I researched used a large variety of media's in their work.
I found this Artist from Pinterest, the original artist is unknown as their web link page was no longer available. The Artist uses digital collage , combining photography with paper textures to create one solid image. I like the way the roses stand out so much, even though the Artist has made them black and white, it creates depth to the image as a whole. The face is only half visible which makes the audience more curious and intrigued by the work, it also suggests the Artist is trying to show the thoughts of the character in the picture. To be more critical about the Artists work I would say that the solid black triangle and the pink moon don't quite work with everything else being black and white, I find that they look a bit out of place and distracting from everything else.

What I aim to get out of this workshop
From researching various Artists I have realized that collage could be very relevant to my project theme and I could use this media for my magazine layout. It could make the page more eye catching and bold, drawing the reader in. I want to experiment with different types of collage including digital collage to see what layouts I could achieve.
This Artist works for clothing lines and companies creating layouts to display the clothing items using collage. Here where the original images used.

I found some examples of collage in the magazine that I was inspired by. I possibly could use this technique for displaying my bags and gift shop items.

Digital collage
Digital collage is the technique of using computer tools in collage creation to encourage chance associations of disparate visual elements and the subsequent transformation of the visual results through the use of electronic media. It is commonly used in the creation of digital art.I researched two Types of collage as the artists that I researched used a large variety of media's in their work.

Joined three years ago.
I love the style of the work, it is quite quirky and funky, it really displays the outfit well. the black and white image of the woman works well in contrast with the colour and textures of the background. The Artist has also made a bold white outline around the model, separating the focus from the less important images. Media; paper collage and digital skills to finish.
Here is another example of collage by the same artist, This fits in with my theme really well, and is an effective way of displaying my items for sale.

Print Making process
On Friday I went for a silk screen printing session, this time I was able to use my own design and actually do it all myself as the last session was an induction. I had to apply everything that I learned and put it into practice for this time.
I transffered my design onto the screen before hand, by using a vacuum machine that uses light to transfer acetate your design to the screen. After doing this I then washed the screen on both sides to reveal my design.
I checked my design against the light to make sure the design is clear with no existing splodges on the screen .
I chose the ink's that I wanted to use by matching colours that work well together, I also ironed my material to make sure the ink spreads evenly with no creases.
I also tested the inks with a paint brush and used my sketch book to brush the colour on, this helped me to see how the colour would turn out on my material, and if any colours didn't work together.
I then put the ink onto the screen and used more than one colour at a time to create a marble effect.

I felt that this worked well but I didn't use enough ink the first time and I had to scrape the ink down more than once to make sure the ink had come through the mesh properly. But as a result of this it made the ink bleed.
These are my finished prints, I felt that the process worked really well and it made me more confident in printing and doing it myself. I plan to make purses out of my prints.
